Mayor Forms Ad Hoc Watershed Advisory Committee

Frederick, MD -- Mayor Randy McClement will begin the task of forming an Ad Hoc Watershed Advisory Committee to discuss the City Watershed area and potential recreational uses. Interested individuals should send a recent resume and letter of interest noting the Watershed Ad Hoc Advisory Committee to Amber Grimes, Commission Coordinator, 101 North Court Street, Frederick, MD 21701 or email to agrimes@cityoffrederick.com by 4:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2014.

“As I look at the many possibilities that our Watershed holds for recreational purposes, I have decided to create this Watershed Ad Hoc Advisory Committee. Bringing a wide and well-rounded range of knowledge to the table ensures that utilization of the Watershed for recreational purposes will be done in such a way as to preserve our natural resources. The intent is for the public to be able to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational activities suitable to the area. I, along with City staff, look forward to getting this committee up and running.” said Mayor Randy McClement.
The goals of the Ad Hoc Watershed Advisory Committee include:
• Recommending revisions to the existing Forest Stewardship Plan in order to bring better definition to allowable recreational uses.
• Assisting with the development of a City-sanction trail network system that preserves water quality, environmental habitats and sensitive areas while providing multi-use, sustainable recreational trails
• Assisting with the development of a long-term Trail and Watershed Forest Maintenance Plan

All Ad Hoc Advisory Committee members will serve a one-year term with extension by request. The committee is to be comprised of one Aldermanic representative (non-voting), The City of Frederick Deputy Director of DPW Operations, The City of Frederick Superintendent of Water Treatment, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) representation and the following:
• Organized User Groups – 10 members representing hiking, hunting, biking, horseback riding, running, and other general recreational groups
• Local Resident – 1 member who is a County citizen residing within 0.5 miles of the Watershed Boundary
• City Residents – 2 members who are City residents
• Business – 4 members who either own or operate a businesses within the City
