Each year the Frederick Police Department (FPD) releases its Uniform Crime Report for Part I offenses. Part I crimes are those major crimes reported to the Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI) as part of the Uniform Crime Reporting System, which include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft and stolen auto.
The Frederick Police Department today released the UCR for calendar year 2011, and we are pleased to report that the City of Frederick experienced an overall decrease of -3.1% of Part I offenses compared to last year. As noted in Chart 1, decreases were recorded in robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and stolen auto. Increases were reported in rapes (16 to 19), and thefts. (see chart 1). Increases in theft drove up the property crime by 4.4% and much of this is attributed to shop lifting and other general thefts. We continue to encourage our residents to lock their vehicles, not leave items of value in their vehicles, lock their garages, provide adequate lighting around their premises, and lock bicycles with a secure lock.
Key issues of note regarding this crime information released today:
