Frederick, MD – Winter weather is on the way and the Frederick Community Action Agency (FCAA) can help income-eligible families to weatherize their homes and save money on heating costs. The FCAA operates the federally-funded Weatherization Assistance Program throughout Frederick County, Maryland; this is a free service aimed at helping low- and moderate-income homeowners and renters to save energy, reduce their utility/energy bills, and improve their housing.
Through the Weatherization Assistance Program, FCAA staff members and contractors perform energy audits; clean and repair furnaces; provide consumer education; and perform various energy conservation measures on single-family homes, townhouses, apartments, and mobile homes. The program can provide up to $6,500 in free labor and materials for energy conservation measures on the residences of income-eligible households; all work that is performed is based on a household energy audit also provided free-of-charge by the FCAA.
To be eligible for the Weatherization Assistance Program, households must have incomes at or below 60% of the statewide median income for Maryland, as adjusted for family size. For a family of four, this means the gross income must be at or below $4,847 per month or $58,171annually. Priority is given to persons that are elderly or disabled, to families with young children, and to homeowners.
For more information or to sign-up for the FCAA Weatherization Assistance Program, please contact Dylan Lee, Weatherization Clerk at 301-600-2070 or by email at dlee@cityoffrederick.com.
