Mayor Honors Local AmeriCorps Volunteers
Frederick, MD – Mayor Randy McClement will recognize AmeriCorps volunteers in The City of Frederick at a Workshop Meeting Wednesday, March 26th at 3pm at City Hall. This is part of the Annual Mayors’ Day of Recognition for National Service to be held on April 1st. In Frederick, AmeriCorps members and other volunteers assist our community in addressing important community needs through direct service and building the capacity of non-profits to meet the needs of the populations they serve.
“We are excited about this opportunity to shine a spotlight on the value of National Service in The City of Frederick as we recognize the Mayors’ Day of Recognition for National Service. We are proud to have 3 AmeriCorps volunteers at the Frederick Community Action Agency. On Tuesday, April 1st, I will join over 800 Mayors across the nation to recognize the importance of National Service in our community and to also recognize our local AmeriCorps volunteers,” said Mayor Randy McClement.
Mike Spurrier, Director of the Frederick Community Action Agency said, “We are extremely proud of our AmeriCorps members and their outstanding commitment to service. Having served as a VISTA volunteer in an emergency shelter in Vermont, I am keenly aware of the invaluable work of the Corporation for National Service and the AmeriCorps and VISTA Programs. AmeriCorps is a wonderful learning and growth experience for anyone contemplating a career in human services.”
Additional partnerships in Frederick that host AmeriCorps members are the Asian American Center of Frederick, Boys & Girls Club of Frederick and Big Brother, Big Sisters. The Workshop Meeting on Wednesday, March 26th will be held in Frederick’s City Hall Boardroom and is open to the public.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors and the Corporation for National and Community Service announced the 2nd Annual Mayors’ Day of Recognition for National Service to be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. The goal of this day is to highlight the impact of national service and thank individuals serving in AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs across the country.
