Frederick Police Officers were dispatched to a reported accident involving a MARC passenger train and a pick up truck. The truck, which fled the scene was found concealed close by and the driver was arrested.
On today's date, 03-14-14, at approximately 1720 hours, officers with the Frederick Police Department were dispatched to a hit and run accident that involved a MARC Train and a pick-up truck. It was also reported that the pick-up truck fled the area with significant damage. Once in the area, officers learned that the pick-up truck had attempted to ride around the crossing gates and was struck on the rear of the truck by the train, spinning it around and into a pole. The truck was then able to flee.
Based on the description of the truck and driver, and direction of travel, as well as the registration plate information, the truck and its' operator were located in the 800 block of E. South St. It was determined that the driver of the truck was driving on a suspended Georgia Driver's license. He was subsequently arrested and charged with various traffic charges relating to Hit and Run violations and the driving with a suspended license charge. He was identified as Frederick Dell Jackson who resides in Frederick MD.
No injuries were reported as a result of the accident and the MARC train sustained superficial damage and was underway with only a minimal delay to its' schedule. The truck operated by Mr. Dell suffered major damage.
