The Frederick Police Department makes an arrest of 1st Degree Rape suspect. The offense occurred on February 26, 2014.
On 2/26/14, at approximately 1900 hours, detectives with the Frederick Police Department responded to Frederick Memorial Hospital for a rape allegation. Upon arrival, detectives discovered the female victim was raped inside her apartment located in the 200 block of S. Market St. Frederick, MD by a known acquaintance. Det. Forrest was assigned as the lead investigator in the case.
Further investigation revealed the victim was strangled and threatened with a knife after the suspect broke into her apartment. The victim in the case was injured; her injuries included bite marks, cuts and other minor lacerations. After raping the victim, the suspect stole several items from her apartment. During the course of the investigation, detectives located and obtained evidence of the reported theft. A subsequent DNA search warrant was granted on 3/4/2014 for the identified suspect:

On 3/5/2014, at approximately 1800 hours, the Frederick Police Patrol Division located Matson in the area of S. Market St. and All Saints St. After a brief pursuit on foot, officers apprehended Matson. Matson was taken to the Criminal Investigation Division offices for questioning and then taken to the FCADC.
The suspect and victim did not know each other intimately, but the investigation revealed that they had previously lived in separate apartments with in the same apartment building.
Matson is charged with the following:
• 1st Degree Rape
• 2nd Degree Rape
• 1st Degree Sex Offense
• 2nd Degree Sex Offense
• 1st Degree Assault
• 2nd Degree Assault
• Robbery
additional related charges may follow a grand jury indictment.
