City Urges Public to Use Caution in Parks

Frederick, MD -- The City of Frederick Parks and Recreation Department would like to reinforce the necessity of using caution when entering City parks due to the significant property damage caused by the recent blast of snow and ice storms. The City, as well as many residential property owners, are still involved in debris clean-up and in some cases, assessing potential future concerns by trees that have been weakened by the storms, i.e. hanging limbs, weakened tree foundations, etc.
Mayor Randy McClement said, “I am asking all City residents and visitors to assist us by maintaining a sense of caution when entering our parks. I would strongly encourage maintaining a “safe distance” from any trees until such time as the City announces an all clear, and deems it is safe to enter the parks without reservation. Safety of our citizens is first and foremost and City crews continue to work diligently in the aftermath of these winter weather events.”
Roelkey Myers, Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation, said the City is actively working to clear debris and address any potential hazards caused by the storms and have identified several trees that have a potential to cause injury due to fallen limbs etc. but cautions that it will take quite some time to address all of the areas.
For information or to report an area of concern in a City park, please call 301.600.1492 or email rmyers@cityoffrederick.com.
