INCIDENT/ INFORMATION:
On 12-1-11, Frederick Police Department officers were notified of a possible counterfeit money scheme that began at K-Mart located in the 1000 block W. Patrick St. The case was assigned to Det. Jon Holler who determined that several individuals were involved in a counterfeiting scheme of U.S. currency. The individuals involved were purchasing items with counterfeit bills and returning the items several hours later to obtain real currency. With the help of the United States Secret Service, the bills were determined to be counterfeit. The investigation spanned several weeks, involved multiple subjects, and included at least two businesses (Wal-Mart & K-Mart). Both businesses were victimized on several different occasions by the same suspects.
The suspects were identified by Det. Holler and were charged on an arrest warrant with numerous offenses including:
• Possession of forged currency
• Theft Less than $1,000
• Theft Scheme
• Conspiracy to commit the above offenses
The people charged in the investigation are:
1. Karena Elizabeth Snowden of the 1600 block of Colonial Way in Frederick, MD.
2. Christina Marie Laycock of the 100 block of Willowdale Dr. in Frederick, MD.
3. Antwine Dwayne Snowden Jr. of the 1400 block of Key Pkwy in Frederick, MD.
All three suspects (pictures attached) were located by detectives on 1-18-12 and taken to FCADC without incident.
At this time, the Frederick Police Department is also investigation the possibility that others may have been involved in these incidents. The investigation remains open and is ongoing.
