Damage to City Parks Extensive Following Ice Event
Frederick, MD – The City of Frederick’s Parks System sustained significant damage from the recent ice event. Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation, Roelkey Myers said it will take some time to clean up the entire system as many things must be taken into consideration, including the safety of the parks for the general public as well as the safety of staff tasked with the cleanup effort.
Mr. Myers said, “As conditions and time permit, the work will be scheduled. We do not want to cause any further damage to our parks so we’ll need to carefully work our way through the City. We are continually assessing and reassessing our plan. We ask for the public’s patience as we begin to tackle the great deal of work we have a head of us.”
Park roads and paths will be cleared as conditions allow. Due to the magnitude of the ice event and the number of downed trees, it will be necessary to bring in heavy equipment in some areas. In order to avoid further damage and ensure the safety of equipment operators, the ground must be allowed to dry before this stage of cleanup can begin.
