Mayor McClement to Participate in Groundhog Day Fun Bike Event

Frederick, MD -- For all hoping the groundhog predicts an early spring this year, join Mayor Randy McClement on Sunday, February 2nd at City Hall to witness the final verdict!

Join bicycle enthusiasts as they participate in the 2nd Annual Groundhog Day Fun Ride. Follow Frederick Town Phil, a friendly furry groundhog, as he rides and searches for his shadow through some of the less traveled streets of Frederick. The pace will be casual with a total distance of 7 miles. Upon reaching City Hall, Mayor McClement will join Frederick Town Phil to determine – will Phil see his shadow or will Phil not?

“Come out and join us for this fun, lighthearted event. Even if you do not participate in the ride, meet at City Hall and cheer on Frederick Town Phil,” said Mayor Randy McClement “This is just another great event that makes our City unique and a fun place to live, work and play!”

The bicycle ride will begin at The Bicycle Escape located at 7820 Wormans Mill Road in Frederick, MD and end at City Hall, located at 101 North Court Street. Riders will meet at 1:00 PM with the ride beginning at 1:30 PM.

“It’s all about the fun,” said Roger Rinker, a member of The City of Frederick Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee and manager of The Bicycle Escape in Frederick, who organized the Groundhog Day Fun Ride. The ride is sponsored by The Bicycle Escape. For more information and to join in the fun, go to http://www.thebicycleescape.com/ or call 301.663.0007. The ride is free and open to the public.
