Businesses and Residents Urged to Register Security Cameras

Frederick, MD -- Local businesses and residents can help law enforcement agencies solve crime by registering their surveillance cameras with the Frederick Police Department! Surveillance cameras can supply key evidence in arrests and the identification of criminals. Surveillance camera information is not only used to help police find criminals but is used in courts as evidence in the conviction of a criminal. The evidence on the camera can be used in a court of law to identify a criminal, convict a criminal, and get search and arrest warrants. The presence of cameras in businesses can be a huge deterrent to someone thinking about committing a crime.

“We saw firsthand how valuable surveillance camera information was in solving the recent Boston Marathon bombing incident as well as in our Burger King Murder case. Once the camera is registered, information/footage from the registered cameras in the location of the crime can be pulled for evidence. Evidence can also be shared with other law enforcement agencies.” said Mayor Randy McClement.

Lt. Dennis Dudley said, “We highly encourage the registration of business and residential surveillance cameras with the Frederick Police Department. The cameras locations will be compiled in a list format and a map format. The Frederick Police Department investigators would be able identify camera locations in the vicinity of a crime and then check the videos for evidence. This is community and law enforcement working together and sharing resources to fight and solve crime.”

Business and residential surveillance camera can be registered on the Frederick City Police Department and The City of Frederick websites. To register your business or residential surveillance camera, go to http://www.cityoffrederick.com/police/video
