Tech Frederick Gives Back to the Frederick Community
IT Association Pulls Together to Provide Food Donations to Hillcrest Elementary
Tech Frederick, a peer group for local individuals in the IT Industry, was recently tasked with collecting food donations for holiday dinners to assist some families at Hillcrest Elementary School who recently had their food supplements reduced as a result of cut backs by the Government. There was a concern that some students and their families wouldn’t be able to have Thanksgiving dinner and a call was taken by Fran Haller with En-Net Services. En-Net is a local, active member of the Tech Frederick community.
With the support of her supervisors, Ms. Haller reached out to the Tech Frederick Advisory Committee and put the word out for the need of donations. The Tech Frederick Advisory Committee released the following statement, “no Family or Child should go without food, one of the things we take for granted every day.” The group responded and collected 12 cases of food, and several boxes of kid friendly food, along with $200 in gift cards allowing the school to purchase turkeys for the families in need. Representatives from the group, along with Randy McClement, Mayor of Frederick, is presenting the food to the school on Friday, November 22nd.
Ms. Norma Claro and Janneil Bagley, Community Liaisons with Hillcrest Elementary School shares, “Many of our families at Hillcrest Elementary are economically disadvantaged. Tech Frederick and En-Net Services pulling together and answering the call to provide a thanksgiving meal is extremely meaningful and greatly appreciated. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday for our community to work together to give to others who are less fortunate.”
Chris Westphal with Raytheon Visual Analytics and an Advisory Committee member stated, “Raytheon VAI applauds En-Net's initiative for organizing support for our local community and for involving the Tech Frederick Advisory Committee Members in their support of the Thanksgiving Food Drive. It is important for all of us to remain active and help contribute to making Frederick a better place to live.”
Tech Frederick is a joint venture of The City of Frederick Department of Economic Development, Frederick County Business Development and Retention, the Frederick Innovative Technology Center, and the local tech community. The organization supports local IT business owners providing advocacy, communication, networking and developing partnerships.
