City Schedules CDBG Needs Assessment Meeting

Frederick, MD -- The City of Frederick Department of Planning/ Division of Community Development will hold a CDBG Needs Assessment meeting on Wednesday, October 16th at 7:00 PM in the Boardroom in City Hall. CDBG (Community Development Block Grant Fund) funding is a grant award given by HUD to entitlement communities. The purpose of this public meeting is to gather input from community organizations on future projects that are designed to meet the needs of the community using CDBG funding, primarily bricks and mortar projects.

Eileen Barnhard, CDBG Program Administrator for The City of Frederick said, “This meeting is not a funding application process but rather an opportunity for the community to help guide the future funding awards for the next grant year.”

Annually, The City of Frederick is awarded funds to use for eligible activities which meet a national objective. National objectives include benefiting low to moderate income persons (LMI), aid in the prevention of slum and blight and meet an urgent need. CDBG Funding must be consistent with the Consolidated Plan and activities related to housing, public facilities, economic development, other real property and community based development organizations. The City of Frederick is seeking input on the activities/projects that would fall into those eligible categories. The 2014 Grant Year application process will begin in November 2013.

For more information, please contact Eileen M. Barnhard, CDBG Program Administrator, Department of Planning/Division of Community Development at 301.600.2842 or emails ebarnhard@cityoffrederick.com.
