CANDIDATE FILING DEADLINE NEARS
Frederick County residents who wish to appear as a candidate on the April 3, 2012 Presidential Primary Election ballot are reminded that the deadline to file is 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.
Candidates for federal, state and party offices must file their candidacy with the State Board of Elections, located at 151 West Street, Annapolis, MD.
Candidates for the Frederick County Board of Education file their Certificate of Candidacy and pay a filing fee with the Frederick County Board of Elections. A change in state law requires that the candidate’s campaign finance committee, also known as a Statement of Organization, now be filed at the State Board of Elections. It is recommended that a candidate for Board of Education file their Statement of Organization with the State Board prior to filing their Certificate of Candidacy. Failure to meet any of the requirements prior to the deadline will invalidate the Certificate of Candidacy and remove the individual from the ballot.
Individuals who wish to file as candidates for delegate to the Democratic or Republican National Conventions may file at either the State Board of Elections in Annapolis, or the Washington County Board of Elections, 35 W. Washington Street, Room 101, Hagerstown. The filing deadline for these candidates is also 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.
Offices on the 2012 Primary Election ballot include President, U. S. Senator, Representative in Congress, Judge of the Circuit Court, Delegates to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, and Board of Education.
