Mayor McClement to Ring City Hall Bells for “Bells Across America” Day
Frederick, MD – Mayor Randy McClement will ring the City Hall bells on Constitution Day, Tuesday, September 17th at 4:00 PM as part of “Bells Across America” Day. Mayor McClement presented the Constitution Week proclamation to the Frederick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on Wednesday, September 11th at the weekly public workshop meeting.
The Frederick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors the “Bells Across America” as part of the Constitution Week celebration. Churches, schools, courthouses, city governments, fire houses, veterans’ homes and individuals are requested to ring bells on September 17th at 4:00 PM EST in all times zones so the bells are heard simultaneously from coast to coast.
Mayor McClement said, “It is an honor for me to ring the bells of City Hall for “Bells Across America” Day. September 17, 2013, marks the two hundred twenty-sixth anniversary of the drafting of the
Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention. We must always work together as a city, state and nation to ensure the freedoms guaranteed to us through this magnificent document must never be lost.”
Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week and September 17th as Constitution Day.
