Join Us for an Open House on the East Street Rails with Trails Project
Frederick, MD -- The City of Frederick cordially invites the public to join us for an Open House to present the East Street Rails with Trails Project on Tuesday, April 9th beginning at 7:00 PM in the Boardroom in City Hall. We encourage and welcome citizens to look at the design boards, speak to the design staff about the project and then hear a formal presentation on the design project. The presentation will take place once the people in attendance have had ample time to take a good look at the project.
This design project is funded through the Transportation/Land-Use Connections (TLC) Program of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB). Toole Design Group, a highly acclaimed and nationally recognized design firm was selected collectively through the Council of Government and the City to undertake this project. The Neighborhood Advisory (NAC) Members, elected officials, East Frederick Rising, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, TPB staff, and City of Frederick staff have all participated in this project.
The planning for this project goes back as far as 2000 when this link was placed in draft form on the Official Shared Use Path Plan. In 2002, the Plan was officially adopted. The design project began in November and is scheduled to run through May when a final public presentation will be held with the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. Once completed, the project will be eligible for final design and construction funding.
In this release, we offer a glimpse of the illustrative efforts completed to date. More detail will be provided at the open house.
Mayor Randy McClement said, “I encourage citizens to take advantage of this opportunity to see the designs, speak with staff and listen to the presentation. We are very excited to have a portion of this nationwide network of former rail lines here in the heart of the City. This project has involved many dedicated people and this open house is their opportunity to share their knowledge.”
