Burglary and assault in the 500 block of Cotswold Court

At approximately 1:30 PM on 02-21-13, officers of the Frederick Police Department responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 500 block of Cotswold Ct. where the suspect was actively assaulting one of the residents. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect had fled the scene in a silver Volkswagen Cabriolet. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had forced his way into the residence by kicking in the front door and was assaulting the occupants inside. The officers also learned the suspect had done the same thing previously on February 16th but that incident was not reported to police.

A lookout for the vehicle was broadcast to surrounding agencies. It was located near the Wa-Wa on Ballenger Creek Pike by Deputies of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. Before the deputies could stop the vehicle, the suspect abandoned the car and fled on foot in the area of Mallory Ct. Officers and Deputies from both agencies conducted a search of the area. The subject was eventually located at a residence in the 6200 block of Hastings Ct.

A perimeter was established around the residence and as a safety measure the nearby schools were placed on lockdown. Communication was established between police and the suspect who surrendered without further incident.

The suspect was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and charged with the following offenses:

2 counts of 1st degree burglary
3 counts of 2nd degree assault
2 counts of malicious destruction of property
1 count of trespass

After his initial appearance before the District Court Commissioner Latenser is being held on a $250,000 bond.
