Mayor to Speak at Bike Maryland 16th Annual Bicycle Symposium

Frederick, MD -- Mayor Randy McClement has accepted an invitation to be a guest speaker at the Bike Maryland 16th Annual Bicycle Symposium on Wednesday, February 27, 2103. The event will be held at the Miller Senate Building in Annapolis, Maryland. Mayor McClement will participate in a joint presentation on the Bike Friendly Maryland Program.

In 2010, Mayor Randy McClement created an ad hoc Bicycle Advisory Committee with the goal of helping The City of Frederick become recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. In 2011, the designation of Honorable Mention was achieved. In 2012, the League of American Bicyclists designated The City of Frederick as a Bicycle Friendly Community - Bronze level. On February 7, 2013, the Board of Aldermen passed a Resolution to create the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee formalizing the Ad Hoc Bicycle Advisory Committee.

Mayor Randy McClement said, “The City of Frederick remains committed to enabling bicyclists and pedestrians to safely cycle or walk for recreation and transportation. The increase of bicycling and walking opportunities helps to improve the quality of life of the residents of The City of Frederick, which can lead to higher property values, business growth and increased tourism.”

Joining him in the presentation will be Anna Kelso, a former member of the Mayor’s Ad Hoc Bicycle Advisory Board and a former Board member of the Frederick Bicycle Coalition, Beverly Malone, Assistant Director , Marketing, PR and Transportation Demand Management at the University of Maryland – College Park and Darren Flusche, League of American Bicyclists Policy Director.
