Colonial Jewelers Robbery Arrests
On February 12, 2013, at approximately 1:30 pm the Frederick Police Department was notified by a passerby that Colonial Jewelers was being robbed at gun point.

Frederick Police Detectives Morgan and Garcia were in the area. Detective Morgan was on foot and began running towards the store. As he was approaching, he observed several males wearing masks exit the store and begin running east bound on Patrick St. Detective Morgan gave chase until the suspects entered a black pick-up truck bearing Virginia tags and drove away. Detective Morgan was able to get the tag number and he relayed it to responding patrol officers.

The continuing investigation revealed that the suspects Detective Morgan observed running from the store entered the store earlier and at least one of the suspects produced a handgun. All the suspects ordered the employees and customers to lie on the ground. The suspects then smashed one pane of glass in a display case containing expensive watches. After removing numerous watches, one of the suspects sprayed a liquid substance, believed to be pepper spray or some other form of irritant, into the air.

Based on evidence and information gathered during the course of the investigation, detectives were able to identify a suspect believed to be in or around the Washington DC area. With the assistance of Metropolitan Police Department, Alonzo Meadows of Fairfax Virginia, was located and arrested early this morning while operating the black pickup truck. Meadows is being held by the Metropolitan Police Department on a fugitive warrant for his involvement in the armed robbery of Colonial Jewelers. The pick-up truck was transported back to Frederick, where it is being processed for evidence.

The investigation is continuing into the identity of the other two suspects. Chief Thomas Ledwell would like to thank the employees of Colonial Jewelers, the community, and each of the involved detectives, officers, and civilian personnel of the Frederick Police Department for their cooperative efforts during this investigation. Chief Ledwell said “This type of crime inevitably causes fear and shock not only to the victims, but also to the surrounding community. Despite this, both the victims and the surrounding community pulled together, and helped the FPD to quickly establish crucial leads. We are very appreciative.”

There is still much work to be done. We are asking anyone with information on the other two suspects to please contact the lead detective, Detective Morgan at 301-600-1259 or through our tip line at 301-600-TIPS
