Frederick Police remind citizens throughout the city to avoid being a victim by utilizing basic crime prevention tips in reference to their vehicles.
Since the vast majority of these thefts involve unlocked vehicles, the most important tip is to LOCK YOUR VEHICLE! Do not store valuables inside your vehicle. This includes credit cards, cash, wallets, purses, GPS units, laptops, and any other electronic devices.
It is a good idea to record serial numbers for your valuables and take photographs. This will aid any insurance claim, as well as assist police with identification and recovery efforts.
Park in well-lit areas whenever possible. Be on the lookout for unfamiliar vehicles or people in your neighborhood. Telephone the police as soon as you see suspicious activity. If someone enters your vehicle, make a report even if nothing was stolen. This information will help police deploy more effectively.
