The Frederick Police Department conducted Saturation patrols on November 21 and a DUI checkpoint on November 24, followed by DUI saturation patrols. The Frederick Police Department has committed to participating in Operation Save Our Loved Ones (SOLO) 2012 and is receiving funding from the Maryland Highway Safety Office to conduct saturation patrols and checkpoints. On November 21st Frederick Police officers made 4 Driving Under the Influence arrests and 2 suspended driving arrests. On November 24th an additional DUI arrest was made during the saturation patrols and 207 contacts were made at the DUI checkpoint. Project SOLO is a Maryland Highway Safety Office initiative designed to generate broad awareness of the ongoing effort to reduce impaired driving deaths to zero. During designated hours from October 26 through December, law enforcement patrols will saturate targeted areas identified as high profile due to the volume of impaired driving arrests and alcohol related crashes. Project SOLO provides a significant extension to standard enforcement efforts to combat impaired driving and underage drinking, applying mass saturation patrols for specific periods of time in targeted areas.
