Frederick, MD -- The City of Frederick has joined the Maryland Green Registry – a statewide voluntary program to promote and recognize sustainable environmental practices by organizations of all types and sizes within the state.

The Maryland Green Registry was launched in June 2009 as part of the State’s Smart, Green and Growing initiative. Membership is free and encourages businesses, churches, schools, governments, and other organizations to share information on the practices they have in place to reduce the environmental impact of their facilities and services.

“Maryland businesses and other organizations already know that even relatively simple steps to reduce our impact on the environment save money and create a healthier workplace,” said Governor Martin O’Malley. “The Maryland Green Registry provides an opportunity for these organizations to share their stories and inspire others to take steps to protect our air and our water, including the Chesapeake Bay.”

“This administration has been taking steps to become a leader in sustainable practices. With the creation of the Green Initiative Team, the City has been working creatively to create more sustainable practices. The Green Imitative Team has just completed a survey and will use that information to help focus their efforts. The City of Frederick and the Green Initiative Team challenges the businesses in the City to join the Maryland Green Registry,” said Mayor Randy McClement.

To become a member, Maryland organizations are encouraged to visit the Maryland Green Registry website at www.green.maryland.gov and complete a best practices profile. The profiles are posted online to demonstrate each member’s environmental commitment.

For more information, please call Maryland Green Registry Coordinator, Laura Armstrong (410) 537-4119 or Joe Adkins, Deputy Director of The City of Frederick Department of Planning, at (301) 600-1655 or emails
