Citizens Police Academy
The course is designed to give citizens a better understanding of Frederick Police Department functions and the challenges each officer faces every day when he or she puts on the uniform.
Students receive instruction in many aspects of police work such as:
- Criminal Investigations
- Search and Seizure
- Tactical Communication
- Traffic Enforcement
- Uniformed Patrol
The course is highly interactive with frequent hands-on exercises. To complement classroom instruction, participants will also ride-along for a shift with a patrol officer.
The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is an 8 week program designed to give interested persons an overview of the many functions of The Frederick Police Department. Classes meet every Wednesday evening from approximately 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There will be a final practical exercise on graduation day on 10/07/20, where participants will receive certificates of completion and take part in role playing scenarios.
The CPA gives participants instruction in the many aspects of modern law enforcement such as uniformed patrol, criminal investigations, undercover operations, tactical operations, and various other law enforcement functions. There are numerous interactive and hands-on segments such as defensive tactics demonstrations and field sobriety.

The program is open to any resident of the City of Frederick, or persons with business interests in the City, who are 18 years of age or older and have no serious criminal convictions.
