Frederick - City and County - and the State of Maryland are committed to encouraging clean and alternative energy uses. We shed some light on some of the incentive programs available to assist business owners interested in going green.

City Energy Incentives

High Performance Building Tax Credit

  • Eligibility: New LEED certified (or equivalent) buildings
  • Benefits: Tax credit granted as percentage of the City’s property tax, determined by the performance rating of the building
  • Application: Following the completion of project work, submit application and all back-up documentation by April 30th for the tax credit to be applied on the following Fiscal Year’s bill

County Energy Incentives

Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy Loans (C-PACE) 

  • Eligibility: installation of solar, geothermal or wind energy systems, water conservation devices not required by law or any construction, renovation, or retrofitting to reduce energy consumption
  • Benefits: 100% up front capital to commercial property owners for approved projects; the loan is repaid through a long-term surcharge on the property tax bill that transfers with the sale of the property

The State of Maryland offers a large range of grants, loans, and tax credits for businesses undertaking a wide range of energy-saving initiatives.
