2019 World Car Free Days Celebrated in Frederick

Join the City of Frederick to celebrate Car Free Days!

FREDERICK, MD – September 19, 2019:   This Friday, September 20, and Monday, September 23, join the City of Frederick to celebrate Car Free Days by leaving your car in the driveway and taking a ride on a bike, train, or bus to work. People that walk, bike, or take transit to work are the happiest with their commute, so why not join them? Our local transit agencies are making it easier than ever to get around town.

MARC will allow full-sized bikes on trains 892 or 894 (6:05 am and 7:10 am) departing from Frederick and train 880 (7:45am) from Brunswick, meaning even if you work far from Metro or a MARC station you’ll have no problem getting there on two wheels at the other end. Once the day is done, hop on trains 891 or 893 (3:45pm and 5:20pm from Union Station) to Frederick or train 883 (7:25pm from Union Station) to Brunswick to bring you and your bike back home. As a bonus, Metro now also allows bikes on its trains at all times, even rush hour.

On Monday, all of TransIT’s Connectors and Shuttles will be free, giving you a chance to explore the city and county from a whole new perspective.

Need to run some errands? See what’s close by – you’ll be surprised at how fast your bike can get to the store or Market Street.

To make a pledge to participate in the event, go to www.CarFreeMetroDC.org. All participants will be eligible to win great prizes.

This weekend, take a break from staring at tail lights to stretch your legs, use your transit pass, and bust out the bike. Your body will thank you.
