Mayor Michael O'Connor joined the community June 22 for the Juneteenth Freedom Fest at Mullinix Park. The City proclaimed Juneteenth on June 19: It is a day that recognizes the sufferings of slavery, to acknowledge the evils of slavery and its aftermath.

It is also a reference point from which to measure the progress and contributions made by African Americans to society.
