Preservation Month celebrates the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that have shaped us as a people.
Historic preservation is a tool for managing growth and sustainable development, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride and maintaining community character, while enhancing livability. Thoughtful and dedicated preservation has established Frederick as a unique destination that interconnects history with growth into the future.
In 1952 The City of Frederick created a historic district, becoming the second city in Maryland and the 13th in the nation to establish a local historic district, and that district has evolved into one of the best preserved in the nation and one of the largest contiguous districts in Maryland.
National Preservation Month is an opportunity to introduce new audiences to the work being done to enrich and preserve the places that make our community special.
