Stroke Awareness Month

Proclaiming May Stroke Awareness Month: The City and Frederick Regional Health Care System recognize that stroke is a leading cause of death and serious long-term disability. Knowing the BE FAST signs can save lives.

Early treatment is the key to reducing death and disability from stroke; when it comes to stroke, it is important to BE FAST call 911. Any one of these sudden signs could mean a stroke. Balance changes, Eyesight changes, Facial drooping, Arm weakness, Speech changes, Time to call 911 right away.

Screening and prevention reduce risk of stroke. Medical conditions that increase risk for stroke include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, and sleep apnea.
