Tax Relief Adopted, Effective in 2019

Senior homeowners in Frederick may be eligible for tax relief beginning July 1, 2019, thanks to the ordinance adopted last year by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

To be considered for the tax credit, residents should apply for the Maryland State Homeowner’s Tax Credit. The state will then determine if residents qualify for the City credit. If eligible, property owners will receive a credit on their property tax bill as early as July 1, 2019.

“This is a start, as we work to ensure that expanding opportunities in the City do not create unsustainable burdens on residents living on the economic margins, like those this credit is intended to help,” said Mayor Michael O’Connor.
