Oct. 25, the City will proclaim November Municipal Government Works Month. The Maryland Municipal League started the program in 1993 to promote municipal government awareness, civic engagement and education.
WHEREAS: The City of Frederick was incorporated in 1748, and Maryland is home to 156 other municipalities; and
WHEREAS: Municipal government represents the most responsive level of government, allowing citizens to have direct access to elected officials; and
WHEREAS: Since 1993, Maryland's cities and towns have participated in the Maryland Municipal League’s Municipal Government Works Month in November to promote citizens' awareness of and interest in the government in their communities. Through school visits, MML members have educated tens of thousands of students and their teachers about how municipal government works; and
WHEREAS: Municipalities have enhanced the quality of life for their respective residents, maintaining natural and historic sites and structures and helping to make Maryland a great place to live, work, play and explore; and
WHEREAS: The City of Frederick is proud to promote awareness of its governmental activities,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Randy McClement, Mayor of The City of Frederick, Maryland, do hereby join the Maryland Municipal League in declaring November 2017 to be Municipal Government Works Month in The City of Frederick, and recommend that citizens acquaint themselves with and participate in their city government.
