FREDERICK, Md., Friday, March 10, 2017 — In response to record-breaking demand, Bill Nye will take the stage at the Weinberg Center for the Arts for a second evening as part of the celebrated Frederick Speaker Series. The additional Friday, April 21 engagement joins the previously-announced Thursday, April 20 engagement. Both performances will begin at 7:30pm. This is the first time in its five-year history that the Frederick Speaker Series has presented an encore engagement of the same speaker.

Tickets begin at $50; student and group discounts are available. Tickets are now on sale to Weinberg Center members; tickets will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, March 15 at 10am. A separately ticketed meet-and-greet reception will take place immediately following each of Nye’s presentations. These exclusive events provide a chance for fans to meet the speaker, take pictures, and obtain autographs. All of the proceeds from the meet-and-greet receptions benefit children’s programs at Frederick County Public Libraries. A limited number of meet-and-greet tickets are available for the new April 21 presentation; meet-and-greet tickets are an additional $75 each and can be purchased directly through the Weinberg Center Box Office.

Bill Nye has dedicated his life to helping foster a scientifically literate society and helping people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes the world work. His career began as an engineer at Boeing, but not long after going to work for them, Nye began to combine his love of science with his flair for comedy, developing dual careers as an engineer by day and a stand-up comic by night. Eventually, Nye quit his day job and made the transition to a comedy writer and performer on Seattle’s homegrown ensemble comedy show “Almost Live,” where “Bill Nye the Science Guy®” was born.

Nye won seven national Emmy® Awards for writing, performing, and producing “Bill Nye the Science Guy®.” The show itself won 18 Emmys in five years. Nye has authored five children’s’ books about science: “Big Blast of Science,” “Bill Nye’s Consider the Following,” “Bill Nye The Science Guy’s Big Blue Ocean,” “Bill Nye The Science Guy’s Great Big Dinosaur Dig,” and “Bill Nye The Science Guy’s Great Big Book of Tiny Germs.” In addition to his children’s’ books, he is also the author of “Undeniable – Evolution and the Science of Creation,” which was featured on the New York Times’ Bestseller List.

Nye currently serves as CEO of the Planetary Society, the world’s largest space-interest group. Previously, he was elected the American Humanist Association’s Humanist of the Year in 2010, and he was also the honored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers with the Ralph Coates Roe Medal in 2012. In addition to his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, he holds Honorary Doctorate degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Goucher College, Johns Hopkins University, Quinnipiac University, Willamette University, and Lehigh University.
